Greetings fellow WinUsers.
Purchased a brand new HP Pavilion laptop. I absolutely love it --
it's very handsome, and for about $750 it does everything I need.
16" screen, 2.2 GHz dual-core AMD processor, 4 GB of RAM, 250 GB hard
drive, 512 MB ATI graphics.
Finally I'm living a wireless lifestyle. I hooked up a D-Link
802.11n router to my DSL connection, and everything is working really
well. I couldn't believe how easy it was to install, too.
Vista x64 on my laptop is working out great as well. This is the
beginning of my transition to a 64-bit OS. It doesn't have any
problems running my applications. I also installed the following
games of varying age, which run great:
* Unreal Tournament 2004
* Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06
* Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (a 9-year-old game!)
* Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2
* Sierra Sports Game Room (I was quite surprised this worked)
I even installed Windows 3.1 inside of DOSBox, and it actually
works! I used it to see if an old 16-bit Windows game that I
wrote would still run.
Needless to say, my experience so far with 64-bit has been a positive
one, which is a relief, because I was worried that there might be
problems. But now I'm really anxious to upgrade to 64-bit on my
main desktop rig as well, which I will be doing when I get my Windows 7
upgrade in a few weeks. (I actually think it's kind of funny that
my main machine is running a 32-bit OS and my secondary laptop is
running a 64-bit OS with more memory. Go figure.)
This is also just the start of a series of upgrades I have planned for
the near future. I just ordered a 28" LCD from Newegg, and I was
planning on pairing my current 22" monitor with the purchase of a new
Mac Mini. It'll be nice to play around with some current Apple
technology and software (right now I have an older 600 MHz PowerPC
iMac).
Technology is FUN..........!!!
